Product Description
26. Monochloroacetic acid at 298 K interacts with water (water in large excess):
CH3ClCOOH H2O = CH2(OH)COOH HCl
The progress of the reaction was monitored by taking samples, which were titrated with alkali. The results of titration of samples of the same volume with an alkali solution:
t, min 0 600 780 2070
Amount of alkali, cm3 12.9 15.8 16.4 20.5
Determine the order of the reaction, calculate the rate constant, and calculate how long after the start of the reaction it takes for all three acids to be present in equivalent amounts.
